Keiki Heroes and HFD partner to provide safety and health information to elementary school students
On October 4th, a group of community volunteers and Hawaii Fire Department staff came together to package materials for distribution to all elementary schools across Hawaii Island. A total of 16,500 copies of materials were printed, collated, and packed for distribution. Each school received a package of materials, including Keiki Heroes’ “Let’s Stay Healthy Together” booklet, Fire Safety week booklet, and coupons from businesses across Hawaii. This is the second year in a row that the HFD and Keiki Heroes partnered to provide elementary students with the resources they need to stay safe and healthy.
Keiki Heroes’ newest booklet titled “Let’s Stay Healthy Together” includes a comic about how the COVID vaccine helps train our white blood cells to fight the COVID virus. It’s a fun and engaging way for keiki to learn about how the vaccine works. Also, it included various learning activities and the Keiki Heroes pledge.
Joining the Keiki Heroes team were volunteers from the Akaka Falls Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Hilo. Keiki Heroes’ gecko character is named Laulima, meaning working together. Working together definitely makes the work lighter!
We’re grateful for the Hawaii Fire Department and our community volunteers who contribute in so many ways to laulima in our community.
